Leland Cheung has been on the council for only two years but has achieved a tremendous record balancing innovation and constituent service. It is a cliché to look at the youngest member of a body and identify that person as being the best able to guide a city into the future, but Cheung makes it difficult to avoid. Cheung is low-maintenance and high-productivity, and he listens.

Leland Cheung: Cheung has only spent one term on the City Council, but has distinguished himself as a quick learner and a strong proponent of technology and transparency in a city that has had difficulties embracing both concepts.

This comes the same day Leland was endorsed by the Young Democrats of Massachusetts. "Cheung has a strong track record of taking on tough issues, has been a vocal proponent of housing and education and has made improving relationships between the city and its university community a priority" Almquist said.

If reelected for a second term on the Cambridge City Council, Leland Cheung says he will be an advocate for government transparency.

“On the council, I have been a loud and passionate voice for government that is transparent and accountable,” Cheung says, citing his initiative to have government contracts available to the public.

MIT Tech: Leland shoots for 2nd term on City Council

 

Leland Cheung, a former Sloan School of Management student who made headlines in 2009 for being the youngest person and first Asian-American elected to the Cambridge City Council, is running for re-election. This season, Cheung’s main initiatives include promoting the local economy, affordable housing, public education, energy conservation, and government transparency. Cambridge residents will head to the polls on Nov. 8.
